If you’re wondering whether a change in color, texture or other skin feature is something to worry about or not, the following symptoms require you seek medical advice from a dermatologist.
The symptoms checklist
- Acne
It is a long-term inflammatory skin condition which is characterized by appearance of small bumps or papules. Its appearance throughout adolescence and young adulthood is normal. For once which you can’t get rid and doesn’t respond to over-the-counter options.it is advisable to schedule an appointment to manage the condition - Cold Sores
Cold sores are small painful blisters caused by herpes simplex virus which mainly affect the lips, mouth or gums. It is normal to occur once or twice a year. But if you experience it every month, you have to consult a dermatologist. - Dandruff
Dandruff is small flakes of dead skin which normally can be relieved by over the counter shampoos. But if you experience thicker, scaly, itchy flakes which affect your everyday life, you have to consult a dermatologist. - Hair Loss
We lose normally up to 150 hairs per day as the hair is constantly growing and replacing itself. But if your hair is falling excessively causing bald patches in the shapes of circles on your scalp, it is time to contact your dermatologist. - Nail Issues
If you experience nail issues such as nail separation from the nail bed or nail thickening, it is better to see a dermatologist to determine the best treatment option. - Skin rash
Skin rash is a change in the color and or the texture of the skin which may be painful, itchy and/ or warm. It can occur from anything from sensitivity to a skin care product to a skin condition. If you experience a skin rash which is annoying and get worse, you should see a dermatologist. - Eczema
People with sensitive skin may normally experience a few mild itchy patches that respond to over the counter treatments. However itchy patches are something to worry about especially if they affect your everyday life and aren’t resolving easily. - Psoriasis
Psoriasis is chronic autoimmune condition which can get worse in presence of certain environmental factors and other health concerns. It is characterized by scaly and red patches which may be also painful. If your psoriasis affects your personal and work life, it is time to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist. - Skin Aging
Over time, the skin shows the signs of aging such as loss of elasticity, loss of volume in the face and development of wrinkles. This process is determined by certain environmental factors such as the sun, pollution and certain lifestyle habits. So if you notice that your skin is showing the signs of premature aging, you should ask your skin doctor for a routine skin care. - Excessive sweating
Sweating is a physiological function of the body which occurs with physical or emotional stimulus. However excessive sweating can be caused by certain diseases, supplements or medications. Excessive sweating alone is nothing to worry about, but if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as chills, lightheadedness, chest pain, nausea or high fever (40 C), you should seek a medical advice.
