Dentistry is the department which is concerned with diagnosis and management of dental and oropharyngeal diseases, disorders and congenital anomalies.

What is a dentist?

A Dentist is a physician who is specialized in diagnosis and management of problems that are related to patients’ teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth. They provide advice and instructions on how to take care of teeth and gums and on how to determine your diet choices that affect oral and dental health. Our hospital HIH has a great and very qualified staff of specialized dentists.

The dental department at HIH offers a full range of dental services covering both treatment and cosmetic procedures. Our services are covered by several consultants each having an area of expertise in the following subspecialties: general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative services and oral surgery.

When To See A Dentist

Dental problems are very common among all age groups, starting from eruption of milking teeth, even among children.
The unique character of dental disorders is that they are universally prevalent and does not undergo remission or termination if untreated and require special expertise and professional treatment. So, routine checkup with your dentist can help you to be on top of your dental health.
Routine checkup is best to be every six months to reach a satisfying level of dental care.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, you have to see your dentist immediately.

  • Toothache
    If your mouth or jaw hurts, it could be from a toothache. Toothaches usually indicate a cavity, but they can also be a sign of gum disease. In some cases, toothache is a sign of an abscess or impacted tooth. Any toothache has to be evaluated by a dentist in a right way to determine the specific cause of the problem and prevent the tooth from death.
  • Sensitive teeth
    That hurt during eating or drinking hot or cold beverages. Sensitive teeth should not be neglected as they could be complicated with serious problems such as tooth decay. So, if you have sensitive teeth, visit our department for examination and prescription of the suitable drugs and life style modifications. Follow the instructions of treatment to get the best of your dental health.
  • Bleeding or sore gum
    It may be due to general causes of bleeding as hypertension, liver disease or hemophilia. It also may be due to local disease as gingivitis. So, thorough history, examination and investigations are essential for proper management.
  • Mouth sores
    It may be a self-limited condition, but any mouth sore that lasts for more than one week, should be examined by your dentist to detect the cause and manage the condition properly not to propagate to serious complications.
  • Bad breath
    It can be caused by what you eat, poor mouth hygiene, dry mouth, smoking or other medical conditions. Persistent bad breath can also be a warning sign of gum disease.
    Brushing twice a day and flossing daily are essential to reduce bad breath and prevent gum disease. Brushing your tongue can help too. If you are concerned about what is causing your bad breath, see your dentist. HIH qualified team of dentists can determine the cause and provide a treatment plan.
  • Jaw pain or popping / clicking in the jaw
    It may be due to toothache, arthritis, injury, teeth grinding, sinus problems, gingivitis or problems with your jaw like TMJ. So, diagnosis is difficult due to the variety of causes that can cause this symptom. In our department at HIH, we will conduct a thorough examination and imaging which will enable us to accurately determine the source of the pain.
  • Dry mouth
    That results as a side effect of some medications or it may be a sign of a specific disease. So, call our department to detect the cause, treat it and regain moisture of your mouth.
  • Infection complicating oral piercings
    If the piercing incision is inflamed, you have to call your dentist urgently, as the oral piercing place is very liable to bacterial infections.
  • Cracked or broken teeth
    It may occur from injury or otherwise and it may distract your smile or eating. So call your dentist for proper management.
  • Stained or discolored teeth
    It may be caused by staining beverages as coffee, tea and smoking or due to aging.

    X-rays allow the physician to see what happens beneath the surfaces of your mouth. It is a crucial part of the checkup visits. It can diagnose problems that are not visible by the naked eye such as impacted tooth and destructive diseases that are silent or with little symptoms.
  • Head, neck and lymph nodes checkups:
    Lymph nodes affection may be an alarming sign of major health problems, so if an abnormality is present, our team in HIH will alert you to it and refer you to the appropriate medical professional.

  • Bleaching
    This is office procedure where the dentist uses light or laser to the deeply rooted stains. It can whiten the teeth up to 8 shades based on the initial level of discoloration and your desire.
  • At-Home Whitening

Information About The Clinic

As proper dental care is vital to maintain your teeth and gums healthy, and this in return will maintain your attractive smile and your overall health.

During the first visit, your doctor will listen to your concerns, may ask a series of questions including your current medications, family history, other medical conditions including allergies, eating habits to help reach the proper diagnosis and treatment, and then examine you thoroughly through examining your teeth & gums. At the end of the visit, your doctor may ask for some tests to help reach the diagnosis.

Patients are generally seen by appointments, however if your situation is urgent, please inform our staff when you call or visit our around the clock emergency department. Our best effort will be made to see you as soon as possible and the specialized dentist will be immediately notified to assess your needs.

When you schedule your appointment, we will ask you to provide important information that will help us evaluate your current condition:

  • Be prepared with the questions you want to ask
  • Bring a notebook and pen, we encourage you to take notes
  • If this is a follow up visit, you have to remember to write down the changes you have experienced since your last visit.
  • All records that refer in any way to your condition.
  • A complete list of your medications.
  • All prior medical records, including x-ray films, biopsy,reports, labs and/or pathology records.
  • Any necessary referrals or prior authorization required by your insurance company.
