When to see an ophthalmologist
- Persistent headache
If you always have a headache, then it can be time to see your ophthalmologist. Mild cases may be caused by looking at the computer screen too long, or working on overly bright or dim light. Simply this can be relieved by taking a rest every hour. On the other hand, more severe cases can be caused by astigmatism, long-sightedness, or even glaucoma. - Eye infection
When your eyes get infected, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms- Sensation of something is in your eye
- Red eye
- Pain
- Discharge from the eye
- Sensitivity to light
- Blurred vision
- Flashes and floaters
Don’t worry about the little squiggly pieces of dust in your vision. But if you have a sudden increase in floaters, and flashing lights in your peripheral vision it could be a sign of a serious problem like detached retina which is an eye emergency. - Increasing eye pain
Lots of people accommodate painful eye symptoms, and never do anything about them. Don’t be like this; if you experience eye pain which is becoming a bit much, you should get an eye exam. It can be a sign of an injury, or a serious condition like glaucoma, corneal erosion, or even eye cancer. - Squinting
If you need to squint to focus –for example: to read road signs while driving, it could be a sign you need glasses. - If you have diabetes
If you have diabetes, monitoring your vision is as vital as looking after your blood sugar. It can damage the retina, so don’t let it go on too long. In addition, unfortunately so many people know they have diabetes for the first time on examination of the eyes. So it is advised to get a routine examination .
