When to see a pediatrician
If you’re a parent, pay attention to these key symptoms when your kid gets sick as these symptoms requires calling the pediatrician.
Fever
Fever is not an enemy in general. Because it helps your child’s body to fight infections which are viral in the majority of cases and don’t have specific treatment. But you should call your pediatrician if:
- Your infant is under the age of 2 or 3 months. Call the doctor if he has any fever at all, because the immune system of this age group is still immature and this fever may be a sign of severe illness such as bacterial meningitis or pneumonia.
- Your baby is older than 3 months and also has associated symptoms such as vomiting or sickness.
- Your child repeatedly experiences fever above 40 . That’s especially vital if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as rash, trouble breathing, trouble waking, persistent vomiting, or diarrhea.
Vomiting or Diarrhea
Don’t worry, if it’s a single episode. But if either persists, then dehydration becomes a complication. Ensure plenty of fluids intake to prevent dehydration. Call your pediatrician if:
- The symptoms become more severe or persist for many hours.
- Your child shows signs of dehydration.
Coughs and Colds
Call the pediatrician if:
- Your baby is at or under the age of 3 months.
- Your child is older than 3 months when he is experiencing also trouble breathing, stuffy nose for more than 10 days, persistent cough for more than a week, ear pain or rash.
Pain While Peeing
This complaint especially with a girl may be a sign of urinary tract infection.
